MAGAZINE -- Magazine community member Sammy Khilling was, among many things, an avid reader throughout his life. Through the generosity of his friends and wife's classmates, his legacy and love for reading will live on with some Magazine Elementary students.
Khilling passed away in August, and he requested that instead of flowers books be donated and given to children in his memory. His wife's Magazine High School graduating class -- the Class of 1967 -- made a generous donation in his memory to make his wish become a reality.
Thanks to their donation, Magazine Elementary was able to purchase 55 books for students. Students were chosen by random drawing to receive one of the books, which were presented in Sammy Khilling's honor on Wednesday (Dec. 6) by Linda Khilling and her classmate, Connie DeWitt.
Magazine Elementary is "very thankful to Ms. Khilling for helping to pass the love of reading along to our students with the gift of a book."
